Calypso Tunnel
Just off The Rook (a large white cone shaped promontory to the east of Xweini Bay) lies a trench bridged by a large square section spar of rock. At about 15m amongst the sea grass you drop into this trench and can see calypso tunnel at the end. By swimming on the left hand side of the trench you can see what appears to be a face in the rock looking at you. Calypso tunnel forms the “mouth”, on the walls are large patches of star coral and in the nooks and crannies crabs, lobster and the occasional conger or Moray. The tunnel exits on a large sandy “bay” on edge of the reef drop off, at about 32m. The choice is then to swim along the drop off either left towards Double arch reef or right. Pelagic fish such as jacks, barracuda and grouper can be spotted in the blue off the wall. A careful check should be kept during this point of the dive on air and bottom time. On the way back time can be spent in the tunnel or inspecting the “eyes”, before swimming back up the trench, to the bridge and safety stop on the anchor line
